Simple Pleasures~ Brightness of Snow

>> Thursday, February 17, 2011

Being a Pacific Northwest raised gal I have never grown tired of the novelty of snow sense I have moved inland. I love how it brightens everything around. It helps with the winter blahs so much. Each time it blows in a new layer on the tired old snow it is all fresh and new again. I can sit by the window and get lost in watching the flakes come down. Sometimes big flakes some times small. Sometimes they come down fast and sometimes slow. I also love how our Lord decided to make it that there are no two flakes alike. All unique and all beautiful...just like the way he created us. I also like winter for the time to slow down and ponder, to think of things that we don't seem to have much time any other time of the year. I also like to take extra time this time of the year to stitch projects, which create more time to think. I work hard not to create too much business so I can soak up this time. Yes, I try not to rush this time and enjoy it for what it is.

.....Simple Pleasures is to remind me to stop, to look, to listen, to slow down and pay closer attention to the simple things in life. And when ever I do, I am never disappointed.

I too love snow! I'm in the south (MS) so snow is not common, but we did experience it last week. 4 plus inches! YEA! I posted about this. Joining you today at Dayle's for Simple Pleasures.

Oh, how lovely! I too adore the slow pace of winter, and have enjoyed this one so very much. My thoughts are turning to starting seeds and planning our first garden, however, and so I know that spring is soon upon us. Enjoy every last fat flake, for too soon they will be but a distant memory in the heat of the summer sun. :)
love,

Beautiful, Mary, just beautiful! I'm always amazed at how bright and blinding the snow can be. I love it! We don't get enough of it though! Last week we were iced (some snow too) and this week we are pushing 80 degrees. Enjoy your beautiful snow!

Mary,

I'm coming by from Far Above Rubies. Thank you for your concern about my daughter.

Yes, I believe the head and the gut are one so the pain is related.

She is better today, and I'm cracking down on making sure she is hydrated, rested, and eating a good diet. We all got sick with the flu, so her delicate condition worsened this past week.

I'm hoping and praying the worst is over. Thank you for your prayers.

On another note, how have I missed such a delightful blog. Where have you been all of my life? ;-)

It's so sweet and lovely here. Your four young men are truly wonderful.

Looking forward to knowing you.

Blessings,

Jasmine

What handsome boys you are raising as Godly men! You and hubby should be very proud of them. I, too, love to sit and watch the snowflakes fall. I live in the NorthEast and we have had our fair share of snow these past two winters! I am ready for Spring!

Oh Mary, this is gorgeous!
The photos are stunning - I just love the snowy collage you've made!
And your thoughts are so good, my friend!
We really should slow down and enjoy the rhythm of the seasons, and the beauty each one brings into our lives.
Watching gentle snowflakes fall, is a blessing to quieten the soul!
God's grace..Trish

Mary, I do love the snow for those very same reasons. Sometimes the weather around us is just that--weather, nothing more, and it is ignored, tolerated, or complained about (by me). But the Lord sends His best for me each day, and that includes the weather! Snow is one of His marvels, and I thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)

Blessings,
Christine

Beautiful photos, Mary. Even though we are enjoying spring-like weather this week, I still enjoy winter and the snow.

Joan

The snow is beautiful, we don't get it where I live but I love the photos other people take and enjoy their snow. It's nice to slow down, take a breath and enjoy the moment rather than always rushing.

I love the pictures of snow. I have not seen it so enjoy seeing it this way. Thankyou for sharing with us to slow down and enjoy what we have been given.

Love your simple pleasure...we had snow for a couple of days and it shut down the city and schools for four, of course not our school since we home school, but everyone got tired of it that fast...we really don't know how to slow down...that is sad.

This was a good post for me to just find ways for us to slow down.
Can't wait for next weeks simple pleasure

It is in the melting stage or still so pretty and white? Those pictures are so beautiful. Do you ever have to shovel your roof? It looks deep! Our snow melted this week. I am ready for spring, though. :-) (((hugs)))

I love Canada (we have visited Alberta twice; must see BC next time) and admire you to pieces for homeschooling your wonderful sons. And I love snow too, but I'm still glad it's 70 deg. here! (21C). Thanks for stopping by!

Canadagirl February 18, 2011 at 8:26 AM

This year we are hovering around freezing. Sometimes a little below and sometimes a little above. So it snows and then melts and snows again. I wish it would stay about -10*C and stay there for the winter. It makes it easy to drive then. That way we wouldn't have to worry about ice, slush and compact snow conditions.

And no we haven't had to shovel our roof. So far with all the melting here and there. There has been no problems.

I too love to watch the snow fall. I love how it transforms the plainest of landscapes. Your photos are lovely. Kathleen.

Love your pictures and about slowing down and looking at our simply blessings that brings us such pleasure

Dayle ~ A Collection of Days February 19, 2011 at 3:55 PM

This is beautiful, Mary. It made me want to curl up somewhere and just slow down. I've always believed that winter's season was for that exact reason. Nature slows down, and so should we.

Great post!

I am finally trying to get around to blogs after battling a rebellious computer for days.

The main thing I missed was being able to see all the simple pleasures.

I love yours! Living in Georgia, we never ever have a winter wonderland like the one in your pictures. Our snow is fleeting at best. I think you're right about it being an incentive to slow down and just drink it all in.

It's like a snow sabbath!

You are so right, Mary, the snow is beautiful. I just hope I still agree with you at this time next year. :) We are moving to central MN in a few weeks!!! (I still can't believe it...) I hope the snow is gone before we get there. I don't mind waiting 'til next winter to see it.
