Simple Pleasures~ Some Spring Green
>> Thursday, March 17, 2011
Living in a place that we can get up to 6 months of winter weather you sure appreciate green when it comes. But when outside doesn't want to cooperate ( like today...it snowed again) with your need for green... then you make it happen inside. My hubby was pruning the fruit trees on the homestead and picked me some desert plum branches to force. I learned a new trick this year. Put one tablespoon of bleach in the water and it will prevent any bacteria growth and you will have nice clear water in your vase as it buds. Earlier this week after we finished our dinner I noticed the neat shadow play that was happening on the wall. I really wished I was able to catch it better but I loved how the branches and the shadow was leaning into each other.
The time to enjoy a bit of green and shadow play was such a sweet simple pleasure after a long winter.

Mornin', Mary!
I love the photo. What a neat way to bring green inside. I shouldn't complain "down here," since we get more of the warm weather than you do. :) I too am longing for GREEN (hey, it's St. Patrick's Day here in the U.S....but I'm not wearing green...I don't have any green clothing...!)
Have a beautiful day thinking of green!

That is an incredilbe picture! Beautiful! The green is a bit hard to find around here too...still lots of brown!, but it is starting to show up - in the waffles this morning, actually!
(My oldest daughter LOVES celebrating the St. Patrick's Day - and she made breakfast!)
Have a glorious day!
I think that's an incredible picture. When I click away, that's exactly what I wish I could create.
I also love the tip about the water. If the cherry blossoms I'm seeking this weekend don't show up, I might figure out a way to try that. Of course, I would have to carry them home with me.
Sorry about your snow! I hate the heat here, but I would get sick of the snow too.
I love forced branches! I understand the weariness of winter all too well. I live in Northern Illinois. We don't get nearly the amount of snow you do up in Canada, but the weather is cold, dreary and miserable 6 months out of the year. Snowing up to 5 of them. :) What a nice way to bring Spring indoors. Blessings <3 Paula
So true, Mary. I love bringing in branches and clippings from the yard this time of year. Thanks for the bleach tip.
Great simple pleasure ... greening indoors.
I have to admit, my favorite seasons are fall and winter, but I do love the changing of seasons and all that goes with watching God's world change before your very eyes. - What handsome boys you have up there at the top of the page!
I love the photo! It's nice to bring branches of color indoors!
PS: We are a homeschooling family, too.
Your twigs do look pretty. Never heard about the bleach before, you'd think it would do more harm than good but I'm going to give it a try all the same. TFS.
Pretty picture. Yes, sometimes we have to find the green wherever we can. :)

Mary - the photo is lovely. Thanks for tip about the bleach.
Blessings,
Joan
When your spring comes, you are going to enjoy it so much!!! :-)
Hi,
What a great idea - bringing in branches and forcing them to bud inside! I'd like to try that with some Forsythia brances. Thanks for the tip about the bleach, too!

this is a beautiful picture. and I think your last line says it all...thanks so much for this....
Oh Mary...what a lovely picture :)
Bringing just a bit of Spring inside...do not worry dear friend, it is almost here.
Love,
M.
Mary your photo is just beautiful!'
I love the shadows too :-)
I've never forced branches to bud -it sounds intriguing.
I do like branches in a vase for decorating or just laid on the overmantle for a while.
Wonderful Simple Pleasure, my friend!
blessings..Trish
Mary, what a beautiful photo. It's the simple things in life that bring such pleasure and joy.
God bless you, sister.

We did this when I was growing up. My mom use to say it was her way of ushering in an early spring.
