Simple Pleasures~ A Touch of Red
>> Thursday, March 3, 2011
When I was a little girl I LOVED the color red. I had a red carpet, red bedspread, and what ever else I could have to be red. Then I went quite a few years of being sick of red but in the last decade or so I have returned back to my love of red. I accent whenever I can now with red. Red teapot, knitted and felted hot pads, table clothes, mugs, tea towels, baskets. You name it I am looking for red. When we were planning the colours for "The House That God Built" ( I need to write a post on this blog to explain this title. ) I wanted a red wall but alas my hubby did not. So when ever I can I decorate with red I do. I am thankful that red has become popular again and it is making finding things easier right now. My simple pleasure is... a splash of colour, RED. ( British spelling for colour)

I love your red accents! I would say that you are WAY better off keeping the wall colors "quieter" and then bringing in all the red you can as accent pieces. Otherwise a wall becomes a focal point. Lovely, yes...but the wall shouldn't detract from the interesting items you love! Beautiful pictures, dearest!
Talk to you later :-D

No, you are never disappointed when you allow His guidance to take over!
The color red...are you sure we are not related in some way? ;-)
When I lived in Victorian homes, many of our walls were painted a red hue. My husband truly enjoyed this.
Then we moved to the country and red walls in our cottage will be too much! But like you, I also use everything I can to use red as a 'happy' color.
I don't have a red teapot, but I do have accents all over the cottage that are either red, or close to it :)
Right now in fact, I am sitting here typing this quick message and looking up at my red hue cottage shade.
So yes, red is definitely the color to have anywhere! :)
Oh my goodness...I wrote way to much today :-)
Love to you dear friend,
M.
Ohh Maria you could never say too much. I always feel so blessed by your comments. Please never hold back the words. You are a blessing, thank you.
Oh your red post....love it and my red mugs would fit so well! I am like you, I have returned to some of my old favorite colors...maybe a different tint than 30 years ago, but I am enjoying them again.
Great simple pleasure...now I must read your older post on your house
That color warms the heart - and so does your post! Love your simple pleasure. Blessings!
Red is such a beautiful accent! I'm a blue girl, with blue in every room of our house! Two blue bathrooms and two blue bedrooms.
I really like all the pictures of your red things. My grandmother loved red. Her little kitchen was red.
It was my favorite place on this earth. All I have to do is close my eyes and I see it so clearly.
First, you definitely need to blog about "The House that God Built". I'll be waiting because it sounds like my kind of story *big grin*
Second, I join in the red corner. I loved it as a kid, too, but in the past few years I have wanted to surround myself with it so much more. I am adding red to my kitchen in pops and bursts around the room. EVERY TIME I add some, it just makes me smile.
Red is a great simple pleasure.
Maybe it's because red is a happy colour. Whatever it is I love all your red "stuff". I think it makes everywhere look more cheerful too.
I love red too. I have some in my kitchen and my bathroom is red with black and white accents. It is piano themed. My husband has gotten used to it over the years.
Blessings,
Dawn
red to me represents passion..your red is beautiful....and your heart passionate.
I've become so fond of red lately. I never used to be. That and purple, too. It's funny how our tastes change over the years.
I LOVE that red bowl!
Blessings!
Sharity
Such pretty pictures. :)

Oh-h...made me homesick for my Mom. Her kitchen is red and just the cheeriest thing. Makes me think of fresh coffee and homemade cookies. M-m-m...
Good spring color!
I loved the way you had used red to give such a splash of colour.
I looked at your previous blog and was amazed at what you see from your back door. it was oh so beautiful.
Thankyou.
We are leaving Summer behind and moving into autumn.
I love red, too, although I have almost none in my house. But it reminds me of love and passion.
I love red too, and I am beginning to incorporate more in my home, thank you for sharing.
Sue
Mary I'm a red loving girl too!
I've had red walls more than once-I loved my blue and white plates against the red!
I love red and white checks and anything 'Prim' style.
And I like red clothes but being an actual redhead, I have to be careful with the shade there :-)
Your teapot is fabulous and so is the wall quilt!
Did you make it, Mary?
bless you dear friend..Trish
Growing up, red was always my favorite color. I had a red coat, my parents just happened to have a red car, and red M&Ms taste the best! After I grew up I began to like blue, then green, but still red is one of my favorites.
Love your red accents and yes, I would be interested to hear about the house that God built.
Blessings,
Joan
Beautiful reds. It's definitely my favorite color beyond doubt. Did you see my red door? ;)
I used to think a red wall would be too much but I found a gorgeous red which is not loud but oh so warm. It has a hint of terracotta to it and of course the paint is flat. We painted our foyer and one living room wall which connects to it. I cannot ever imagine it being another color and have never regreted it. Our light wood looks beautiful against it. It does not darken the room at all.
Anyhow, raising four men of God is most definitely a special calling, not to mention great blessing. Much love to you and thank you for stopping by earlier.
I too love a splash of red here and there. It just wakes things up.
I love your accents! The quilt is beautiful.
DH loves earth tones...I like but its not a love affair! For years I had a bedroom full of pink ( not knowing dh did not enjoy it.) So now I have pink accents amongst the earth tones.
Beautiful red accents! Especially that bowl. I love red too - DH and I are Coca-Cola collectors and have a lot of our house decorated with Coke memorabilia.
BTW, I am doing most of my blogging at http://kymsbookcase.wordpress.com/ if you'd like to drop by sometime.
just beautiful! That is neat how your childhood room was red and now that is a favorite accent color for you. My childhood room was yellow. I find myself painting our walls various yellows. I do love how red pops against yellow!
Oh what a little dash of red does to liven things up! I can understand why it gives you pleasure. Very pretty bowl.
Trish,
Yes I did make that quilt. Thank you for your sweet words. I hope to get back to sewing SOON.
-Mary
*sigh* Once again, a lovely visual treat, as we share a mutual love of red. Thanks for the peeks into your home, and I LOVE that quilt that you made - so beautiful! You've never shared that before... :)
love,
Shani
I share your love of red. It just makes everything pop.
Lovely red accents Mary! I have a red parlor, but not quite the shade I hoped. Someday when I'm ambitious, I may repaint.
Red is a very happy color!
Love the red, Mary. I have color on some of my walls, and I forget that it may be easier to be neutral with the walls, and accent with the colors. That way I can change colors more easily. Hmm. I always learn these things after the fact. I'm stuck with blue for a while!
It's nice to be back, too, and to see you again!
Thank you for visiting my blog! :)
I LOVE red too, especially teapots and kitchen things!
Love, Tina xx
